Ancient "Anhialo" sea salt technology

In Pomorie, the ancient "Anhialo", sea salt has been produced since time immemorial. According to Bulgarian historians, the salt lakes existed even before the founding of the city (around the 5th century BC) Visitors can see "live" all the technological operations and feel the authentic atmosphere of the past.

The Pomorie Salt Museum is the only specialised museum in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe for salt production by solar evaporation of sea water.

The museum showcases the ancient Anhialo technology of sea salt production. It consists of an exhibition hall and 20 acres of active salt lakes. It has a unique collection of photographs from the early part of the last century tracing the development of salt production in the area, old topographical maps, models and authentic salt-making equipment and tools.

The Salt Museum in Pomorie is one of the hundred national tourist sites in Bulgaria.

Ancient domed tomb

The "Hollow Mound" is the only dome tomb of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula. It has been declared a cultural monument of national importance.

The unique tomb is located 5 km west of Pomorie, under the embankment of a mound. The access for tourists to the tomb is easy and comfortable. It dates back from II – IV century after Christ. The tomb is considered as a mausoleum of a rich Anhialo family where religious pagan rituals were conducted.
