Old Town Nessebar
Nessebar is a monument town - the only one on the UNESCO World Heritage List. One of the oldest settlements in Europe founded by the Thracians more than 3200 years ago. Thracians, Greeks, Romans and Bulgarians have lived on this land for millennia. The most ancient remains found on the acropolis date from the second millennium BC.
There are 23 churches and cultural monuments in Old Town Nessebar, from an early Christian basilica to a domed Byzantine church. With its cobbled streets, small squares, preserved ancient houses the atmosphere is also extremely romantic.
At the beginning and end of the season it is much more peaceful, visiting out of season is also possible and offers a different view. The old town of Nessebar is also one of the towns along which the ancient Roman road - Via Pontica starting from Constantinople passes. The Via Pontica is also the name of one of the main bird migration routes that runs along the shores of the Black Sea.
