Windy Cape and Mystical Emona Village
Cape Emine is the easternmost point of the Balkan mountain. Its considered boundary between Northern and Southern Black Sea coast.
It is also the end point of the famous Kom-Emine hiking route. There is a small lighthouse and a beautiful view to the sea.
Cape Emine was declared a natural landmark in 19 April 1976.
Cape Emine is an important point for Via Pontica birds’ migratory route and is a nice location for bird-watching, especially for the soaring white stork flocks during their autumn migration. We have group of ornithologist from Sweden that visit us occasionaly.
There are remains of a medieval monastery of St. Nicolas and remains of the fortress Emona in the area of cape Emine with a 19th-century lighthouse. Emona is famous for being the birthplace of Thracian king Rhesus, who fought in the Trojan War. According to Homers Iliad, he was killed by Odysseus and Diomedes.
The road to the village of Emona is bad and broken, but its worth it. If youre into hiking its possible to park your car just before Irakli and go to Emona by foot The distance from Sveti Vlas to Emona is 35km. Link to google maps - Emona Location
